Last month, the Casey Caregivers Club completed its annual Support the Troops drive to collect supplies to send to American soldiers serving in Afghanistan. With the help of the RBC Military Careers Club, they collected, packed and shipped eight large boxes filled with toiletries, snacks, handwarmers, socks, magazines, soft cover books and Christmas cheer to three soldiers stationed in Afghanistan who were able to share the supplies with their fellow servicemen and women. Included in the boxes were notes of thanks and Christmas wishes from the students.
The soldiers are always grateful to be remembered, especially at this time of year. Casey Caregivers club moderator Mrs, Mindy Fellingham recently received a thank you letter from 1st Lt. Michael J. Buckley, who said he was “able to hand out and share all the items with my fellow soldiers. The smiles on their faces were unbelievable,” adding, “it is always appreciated to know that Americans are still showing support to the soldiers overseas.”
Mrs. Fellingham explains how the project has a lasting positive impact on the students as well, “the students are always happy to know they can thank our soldiers directly, and that no gesture of support and thanks is too small. It is wonderful to see the Casey spirit reach across the globe.”
