(L-R): Mrs. Mary Russo, Mr. Matt Bowen, Mrs. Mary Jane Davis, Martha Kagan

The Virtual High School (VHS) honored Red Bank Catholic High School  for its long-standing partnership to offer advanced learning opportunities for students.  VHS representative Martha Kagan came to RBC last week to present the award to site coordinators Mr. Matt Bowen, Mrs. Mary Russo and VHS science teacher Mrs. Mary Jane Davis.

The Virtual High School provides students with over 300 various course options in different subject areas that students take online in a dedicated class period during the school day.  Since its introduction at RBC in 2010, over 50 students have taken advantage of the opportunity and completed challenging and interesting courses such as Engineering for Sustainable Energy, Biotechnology, Screenwriting, Programming, Mythology, Zoology and dozens more.

According to Mr. Bowen, the school gets  “great feedback from students who have the opportunity to pursue a narrow and specific interest that would never be commonplace as a high school course offering.  The Virtual High School partnership makes this possible.”

Ms. Kagan pointed out that RBC provides students with great facilities and an advanced level of resources including one to one on-site instructional support.  The program has become increasingly popular as RBC continues its commitment to providing numerous educational opportunities for students.
