Posted 04/10/2017 02:27PM

On Saturday June 17th, Bob Scrabis (RBC '85,) will be inducted into the 2017 Class of the RBC Athletic Hall of Fame. As a Casey, he was a three-year starter for the RBC Boys Basketball Team and earned First Team All-Shore honors in both his junior and senior years. As a senior he was also selected to play in the NJ State All-Star game. During his three years playing point guard, Bob and his teammates transformed the team from last to first place in the Shore Conference B North Division and led the team to the NJ State Tournament in 1984 and 1985. During his tenure at RBC, Scrabis led the Caseys in points, rebounds, and assists, and graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,184 points.

In his junior year, Bob averaged 19.4 points and 8 rebounds per game, including netting 31 points against heavily favored Long Branch High School in an historic 71-65 upset victory.  In this same game, he made 24 out of 25 foul shots, and as a result was recognized in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.”  Hobbled by two serious injuries in his senior year, Bob still averaged 20.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

He went on to play basketball at Princeton University under the tutelage of head coach Pete Carril.  He started all four years at Princeton, and received First-Team All-Ivy League recognition in his junior and senior years.  As a senior he was named team and earned Ivy League Player of the Year.  Princeton won the Ivy League title, and Bob finished his college career by leading his team to its unforgettable 50-49 loss to heavily-favored and number one ranked Georgetown in the first round of the 1989 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.  He graduated as Princeton’s fourth all-time leading scorer with 1365 points, and received a BA in History. He now works for the Reilly Financial Group, LLC in Iselin, NJ as Investment Director, and resides in Shark River Hills, NJ.
