Music Program Overview
The Red Bank Catholic High School Music Program is dedicated to offering students a first-rate, well-rounded music education. Whether a student participates in one of our award winning choirs or instrumental ensembles as an extracurricular activity or wishes to study music in the classroom there is something for everyone at multiple skill levels. Red Bank Catholic is home to two award-winning choirs: the RBCHS Choir and Chamber Choir. Both choirs have been honored to perform at Carnegie Hall with the American Festival Choir as the only High School Choir invited in the country in 2013 and they have been invited back to perform again in November. Past accolades include performances at the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress in 2012 with the Diocesan Festival Choir and Orchestra at PNC Bank Arts Center. A performance with the Choir of the Pope’s Diocese for their first visit to America in 2011 as well as obtaining superior rankings at the 2011 High Note Music Festival at Hershey Park. In 2010 the RBCHS Choir won the first annual Christmas Choir Contest on NJ101.5 placing first out of 170 applicant ensembles. That same year the choirs had the privilege to sing with country music star Kenny Rogers at Count Basie Theater. Both of our choirs perform a variety of different types of music. As a Catholic school we are fortunate to be able to perform some of the greatest sacred works of choral music literature. There is a place for everyone at any skill level in the Choral Program at Red Bank Catholic.
The RBCHS Choir is the main choral ensemble experience at Red Bank Catholic. The choir is typically comprised of over 50 singers from every grade, skill, and talent level. The RBCHS Choir annual Performances include: Carnegie Hall in November, the RBC Christmas Concert and prayer services in December. Lenten Prayer services, our Spring Concert, and a performance at Disney World finish off the season. There is NO AUDITION for this ensemble. Rehearsals are held Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00-5:00 PM in the Music Room of the Fine and Performing Arts Building.
The Chamber Choir at Red Bank Catholic is a smaller 16-voice choir that is auditioned from the RBCHS Choir. In addition to the schedule kept by the RBCHS Choir, the Chamber Choir students provide the music at all school Masses and will also perform separately from the RBCHS Choir as needed. Auditions are held at the beginning of each school year and are open to anyone participating in the RBCHS Choir. Rehearsals are held Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00-6:00 PM in the Music Room of the Fine and Performing Arts Building.
The Red Bank Catholic Festival Orchestra is a very unique ensemble that performs three times a year - our Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, and Spring Musical. The Festival Orchestra is comprised of students and faculty of Red Bank Catholic in addition to members of the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra thus providing an unforgettable performance experience for our students. In addition to their orchestral pieces, the Festival Orchestra accompanies the RBCHS Choir at our Christmas and Spring Concerts. Students will also have the opportunity to perform as the pit orchestra for our annual spring musical depending on skill level and orchestration. Rehearsals are held during activity periods as well as when needed closer to performances.
