Physical Education Course Offerings

The Physical Education Program focuses on the student’s participation in a well-rounded curriculum of coed team and individual sports, physical fitness, weight training, recreational activities and aerobics. The goal of the program is to develop the student physically, mentally and socially, emphasizing the importance of safety, sportsmanship, skills and interests that will last a lifetime.
Grade 9, One Quarter
Health Education provides information on health-related problems facing today’s society with emphasis on those areas of immediate importance to the student. Topics include mental health, nutrition, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, medicines, physical fitness and weight control. Students will learn to make healthy, informed decisions.
Grade 10, One Quarter
Course # 0122
Driver Education is a one quarter (9 weeks) theory course. This course will prepare students for the New Jersey Driver Exam. A lecture/discussion course, topics are presented, follow up activities given, followed by tests. The New Jersey State Exam will be administered upon completion of course work to all eligible students. Students must have an 80% average or better in course work to take the exam.
Grade 11, One Quarter
This course administered to juniors by American Red Cross instructors, is designed to help students recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac and breathing emergencies. The course teaches skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive to take over.
Physical Fitness and Wellness
Grade 12, One Semester
Physical Fitness and Wellness emphasizes the knowledge, attitudes, and practices relating to physical fitness and wellness. It is a course designed to expose students to a broad range of issues, practices and information relating to the various aspects of physical fitness, which include the components of physical fitness, health and their relationship to wellness. Topics of exploration include, but are not limited to: principles of exercise, components of physical fitness, fitness assessment, (design of a personal fitness program), nutrition and safety.
Concepts of Athletic Training
Grade 12, One Semester
Concepts of Athletic Training is a semester course designed for students interested in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, kinesiology, or other sports medicine related fields. The course includes class work and practical hands-on application in the following areas: anatomy and physiology, prevention and treatment of sports injuries, taping and wrapping of injuries, and sports medicine careers. This class is a snapshot of the Sports Medicine profession. Within this class, you will learn basic anatomy, most common sports injuries, and basic care for those injuries. This course is open to seniors.
