Red Bank Catholic High School proudly announces the Inaugural Class of the Red Bank Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame. For over 85 years, outstanding Casey athletes, teams and coaches have represented and brought honor to Red Bank Catholic. Now, we honor them.
The first class of the RBC Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted on Saturday, June 18, 2016 with a program to be held in the Red Bank Catholic Vincent J. Eck Student Center.
RBC Hall of Fame Inductees
Below is a listing of the inductees, along with their RBC graduation year and highlights of their athletic accomplishments:
Tom Farrell (Baseball-’53): Struck out 25 in a single high school game, and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians.
George Saxenmeyer (Basketball-’54): First 1,000 point scorer for RBC, led the Shore Conference in scoring in his junior and senior years, averaging 25 points per game.
Richard “Bucky” Moran, (’55): Monsignor Casey Award of Honor
Dennis Lynch (Tennis and Basketball- ’59): All-State player in both sports, went on to play both sports at Yale, and was drafted by the NY Knicks in 1964.
Bob Byron (Track and Cross Country- ’66): All-State for Cross Country and Track, held the RBC record for the mile for 40 years.
Dave Bauer (Football- ’74): RBC All-Shore player, played for Villanova and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1978.
Tom Seitz (Wrestling- ’74): NJ State Wrestling Champion.
Lonnie Burgess (Football- ’77): First Team All-Shore and All-State player, RBC 1,000 yard rusher, member of 1976 NJ State Championship Team.
Tom Seaman (Basketball- ’77): Member of 1977 NJ Parochial-A Championship team, First Team All-Shore and All-State player, played for Holy Cross then played professionally for ten years in France and Belgium.
Peggy Egan Fallon (Girls Basketball -’79): First female 1,000 point scorer for RBC, went on to play for Providence College.
Amy Krilla Overcash (Track & Field -'01): All-State for Track & Field, NJ State Meet of Champions record holder for the javelin and holds the same record for the Penn Relays.
Joe Bolger (Athletic Director, Football and Baseball Coach- ’51-57): Head Football and Baseball Coach, won NJ State Baseball Championship in 1953 and NJ State Football Championship in 1955.
The 1974 – 1977 Girls Gymnastics Teams: Four straight undefeated seasons, NJ Overall State Champions each of the four years.
The 1959 and 1960 Varsity Football Teams: NJ State Champions in 1959 (record of 7-0-2), and 1960 (record of 8-0.)
The 1984-1987 Girls Tennis Teams: Overall NJ State Champions three out of the four years. Lost one match in four years.
This class also includes six outstanding individuals and two teams who previously were inducted into the Red Bank Catholic Alumni Hall of Fame:
Monsignor Joseph T. Casey: After serving in the Navy in WWI, the retired Rear Admiral returned to St. James parish to serve as pastor. He oversaw the rapid growth of Red Bank Catholic High School and instituted a full-scale athletic program at the school, hired the first full-time Athletic Director and donated his Navy pension to buy uniforms and equipment for the teams. Our students today are still proud to call themselves Caseys.
Tom Lalli (Football-‘63): RBC football player, Head Football Coach and Vice Principal. Played football for University of Maryland
Ann Woods Smith (Gymnastics-‘78): Led RBC Gymnastics Team to four NJ State Championships, and was an alternate on the 1980 US Olympic Team.
Harry Flaherty (Football-‘80): RBC All-Shore player, played for Holy Cross, the NFL and the WFL, and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jack Rafter (Cross Country Coach and Athletic Director - ’63-’93): “Father” of Girls Sports at the Shore, at the time of his retirement he was the all-time winningest Cross Country Coach in the nation.
Pat Kennedy (Basketball-‘70): Played at Kings College, and went on to coach at Lehigh, Iona, Florida State, DePaul and Towson.
