RBC Senior Advances to National Shakespeare Competition

Samantha Siriani with RBC Honors Theater Arts teacher Mrs. Mary King

Congratulations to senior Samantha Siriani for taking first place Saturday in the county level of the National Shakespeare Competition sponsored by the English Speaking Union.  In this program, high school students nationwide read, analyze, perform and recite Shakespearean monologues and sonnets.

The competition, held at Brookdale's Performing Arts Center, was the second of three qualifying stages for the national title.  Sam was first selected from a competition held in school to represent Red Bank Catholic at the March 4th Monmouth County competition.

As the Monmouth County winner, Sam receives an all-expense-paid trip to travel to New York City to compete at the National Competition scheduled for April 29th – May 2nd.   She and the other students will perform their monologues and sonnets before a distinguished panel of judges and their fellow contestants from across the country. Based upon their performances, seven to ten students advance to the final round. Finalists, performing their selections along with a cold reading of a monologue, will compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to attend a summer drama program.

"Farewell, good Samantha, and good luck go with thee!"
