Ralph "Doc" Corley ('61) to be Inducted into RBC Athletic Hall of Fame
Posted 05/30/2018 12:10PM

Ralph “Doc” Corley earned varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball playing for Red Bank Catholic. A three-year varsity baseball player, Doc was named Second-Team All-State in his senior year. However, it was in football that Doc really made his mark for the Caseys. In the opening game of his sophomore season against arch-rival Red Bank High, Doc returned a kick-off for a 74-yard touchdown run, RBC’s first score against Red Bank in four years. At the end of the season he received All-Shore honorable mention honors.

The following year he played end, defensive back and returned kick-offs and punts. The team went undefeated and Doc was named First Team All-County, First Team All-Shore and First Team All-State in the parochial division.

In his senior year Doc was co-captain of another undefeated Casey team, and because of his talent and versatility, he was moved to a new position- running back. He did not disappoint. Doc led the team in rushing, averaging 7.3 yards a carry for a total of 685 yards, and in receiving, averaging 28 yards per reception. He didn’t take many breaks during the games. He also continued to return kicks, including a 90-yard kick-off return for a touchdown, and was again a standout on defense. Doc scored ten touchdowns that season and ended his Casey football career with 96 total points, shattering the prior school scoring record by 30 points.

Despite playing a new position, at season’s end Doc again received multiple All-State honors. He was named to both the All-County offensive and defensive First Teams, as well as FirstTeam All-Shore. He was named Monmouth County’s Outstanding Football Player and received the prestigious Thom McAnn Bronze Shoe Award, given for outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as athletic performance.

Doc attended the University of Virginia on a full scholarship where he continued to play football. After graduating he began a successful career in the sales of industrial products, winning multiple Salesman of the Year awards. Over the years he lived in New York, Massachusetts, Louisiana and Tennessee, and at each stop he coached youth football. Seventeen years ago, Doc switched careers and became a massage therapist, working in two hospitals in Tennessee until he retired last year.

Doc will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at a ceremony to be held on June 23rd at the RBC Vincent J. Eck Student Center. Click HERE for event details and ticket information.
