From Left to Right: Sister Mary Simon Robb, Sister Carol Wilson, Sister Phyllis McGuire ,Sister Marge Scarpone

This year four of the Sisters of Mercy in our Red Bank Catholic community are celebrating very special jubilees.   Sister Carol Wilson will mark 50 years as a Sister of Mercy, Sister Marge Scarpone 40 years, Sister Phyllis McGuire 25 years, and Sister Mary Simon Robb will celebrate 60 years. The RBC community extends its heartfelt thanks for their years of dedicated service as Sisters of Mercy. Each of them continues to actively serve.

Sister Carol Wilson entered the Sisters of Mercy from Holy Cross Church in Trenton, and during the course of the last 50 years, she has taught at seven schools including St. James Elementary School here. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgian Court University and a Masters of Art from Seton Hall University. In recent years she served as administrative assistant in Raritan Bay Catholic Preparatory School in South Amboy before beginning ministry at St. Rose of Lima School in Freehold in September.

Sister Phyllis McGuire volunteers at Riverview Medical Center and the McAuley Care Center in Watchung. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1989 at St. Joseph’s in Watchung.  She has worked for the Tioga County Rural Ministry in Owega, NY, at Mount St. Mary Academy in Watchung, and for the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell.

Sister Mary Simon Robb is presently the Director of Elder Care Ministry at St. Pio of Pietrelcina in Lavalette. She entered the Sisters of Mercy at St. John Parish in Collingswood. She graduated from Georgian Court University and spent 19 years teaching at schools throughout the Diocese of Trenton, including Holy Cross School in Rumson. She earned her Master’s Degree from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), and then became certified in social gerontology by Rutgers University.   Over the years Sister Simon has dedicated herself to working with the elderly. In 1975 she co-founded and directed the Bayshore Senior Day Center, in 1981 was named executive director of the Monmouth County Office on Aging, and has served on various boards including the American Society on Aging in New Jersey, Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital and Georgian Court University.

Sister Marge Scarpone entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1974 at Holy Cross Convent in Rumson. She earned a BA from Georgian Court College and went on to earn a Masters from Providence College. She has taught at several schools including Mt. Saint Mary Academy in Watchung and Sisters Academy in Asbury Park, and has served in various capacities at parishes throughout New Jersey.  When she was first thinking about taking vows, Sister Marge remembers contacting Sister Mary Simon Robb for advice. Sister Simon eventually became Sister Marge’s sponsor when she entered the Mercy Order, and they now both happily reside with the other Mercy Sisters here at St. James Convent.  Her parish growing up was Sacred Heart in Bay Head, where Monsignor Joseph T. Casey was pastor. In 2005 Sister Marge started teaching at Red Bank Catholic. She recalls how she “was delighted to be welcomed into the community Msgr. Casey loved. Since I have been at RBC, I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching Religion classes, moderating the Guitar Club and cheering for the Caseys!”
