On Wednesday March 15th, the Casey Caregivers Club hosted Denise Ghizzone, author of Determination - What I'm All
About for a special presentation to club members. Ms. Ghizzone was born with Cerebral Palsy and does not have the use of her hands, arms or legs and is unable to speak. Despite her disabilities, she is a great communicator. She shared her message of acceptance and understanding with our students using a Speech Pac, a device that communicates by tracking the movement of her eyes and chin to form sentences.
Club members read Ms. Ghizzone's book during their last activity period meeting and came prepared with questions when they met her on Wednesday. The students were impressed with her message of kindness, acceptance and determination and were also intrigued by the device which enables her to communicate. Ms. Ghizzone received her degree in English from Brookdale Community College after attending classes there for twelve years. Now a published author, she truly inspired RBC students and RBC Prinicipal Mr. Abatemarco, who presented her with an RBC sweatshirt and named her an honorary CASEY!
