On Saturday, June 17th a sold-out crowd of over 300 RBC alumni, friends and families filled the RBC Vincent J. Eck Student Center to celebrate the induction of the Red Bank Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame 2017 Class. The RBC Athletic Hall of Fame was instituted in 2016 to celebrate those who have distinguished and brought honor to Red Bank Catholic through their athletic accomplishments.
The evening began with Mass in St. James Church celebrated by Pastor Monsignor Phillip Lowery, followed by cocktail hour and sit-down dinner in the Eck Center where generations of Caseys enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, teammates, coaches and teachers to celebrate this year’s inductees.
Members of the 2017 Class are: Gary Beach ’68, Track and Cross Country, Tom McBride ’68 - Basketball/Baseball, Sheila Kelly Sharemet ’74 - Track, Cross Country, Gymnastics, Denise Taylor Laguer ’78 - Track&Field, Bob Scrabis ’85 – Basketball, Jay Nerenberg ’88 – Tennis, Donald Brown ’05 – Football, Jessica DePalo ’01 – Basketball, Lou Montanaro, Football Coach ’76-’98, Maureen Hopkins Sutphen, Gymnastics Coach '00-'11, the 1953 Boys Golf Team, Rudy Gimbrone, George Lane, Paul Hintelmann, Paul Sicliano, Frank Kruse, John Sheehan,

In addition to honoring distinguished Casey athletes, the mission of the RBC Athletic Hall of Fame is to help make a Red Bank Catholic education available to deserving students lacking the financial means to attend. Thanks to the generous support of the RBC community, the 2016 and 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame events raised funds to help 18 current students stay and continue their education at Red Bank Catholic.
Athletic Director Joe Montano remarked, “Once again, it was great to welcome everyone back to campus and to honor the accomplishments of these distinguished Casey athletes.” The energy and enthusiasm of the crowd filled the room, and it was clear everyone was happy to be a part of a tradition that will continue to support the newest members of the Casey Family. Sister Percylee Hart received a heartfelt cheer as she noted, “Once a Casey, Always a Casey!”
