Sister Percylee Hart, RSM served the students and community of Red Bank Catholic as Principal from 1970 to 1980. Her years as a Casey are a source of pride and gratitude as much was accomplished in advancing RBC during that pivotal time in the school’s rich history. When Sister Percylee learned that she was to be honored with the distinguished Casey Award, she reflected on Monsignor Joseph Casey’s remarkable legacy and concluded, “I don’t have his track record, but I have his spirit.” In that spirit, as a lifelong advocate for high school athletics, Sister says that one of the highlights of her principalship was the admission of Red Bank Catholic into the Shore Conference in 1978 after a protracted legal battle. This hard-won goal allowed RBC to spread its wings and grow its athletic programs, and gave RBC’s student-athletes the opportunity to compete and be recognized locally for their outstanding athletic accomplishments.
It is the Mercy Charism that has guided Sister’s outstanding career and visionary leadership in education from her years as a teacher at Holy Spirit Academy to her 10-year tenure as principal of Red Bank Catholic to her current role as principal of Union Catholic High School. When she departed RBC to merge Union Catholic Girls High and Union Catholic Boys High into one school in 1980, Sister quoted Archbishop Jean Jadot, “It is up to us to forge the future rather than have it drift upon us.” Even in the 1970s, Sister Percylee recognized that Catholic schools had to distinguish themselves by delivering quality education in a faith-based environment that prepares students for success in the 21stCentury. Her forward thinking and dynamic leadership modernized RBC and has propelled Union Catholic to the forefront of Catholic education in New Jersey. Sister Percylee continually charges her students, faculty and staff to become all God calls them to be and serves as a catalyst for the progressive initiatives that allow them to answer this call.
Sister Percylee holds a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Georgian Court College, a Master of Science Degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Public Administration in Church Management Degree from Seton Hall University. She serves as a member of the Advisory Committee and the Controversies Committee of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA), is President of the Newark Archdiocese Regional Principals Association, and is Trustee Emerita at Georgian Court University. She is a member of the National Catholic Educators Association and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Sr. Percylee will be inducted into the 2017 Class of the RBC Athletic Hall of Fame on June 17th. Click HERE for tickets and complete event information.
