Last week, members of the Red Bank Catholic Dance Department worked with some special guest teachers. Alex Biegelson and Tyner Dumortier, of the “Ten Hairy Legs” Dance Company, spent the afternoon in the RBC Performing Arts Center’s rehearsal studio working with the students. The dancers worked hard and clearly had a great time in the process.
Ten Hairy Legs is a dance company comprised entirely of men, founded by choreographer Randy James in 2012. James, one of this generation’s driving forces in choreography, dance education and arts advocacy, serves as the company’s Artistic Director. As part of its education programs, Ten Hairy Legs dancers perform and give workshops teaching James’ work as well as works by other significant choreographers. This education program aims to expose students to a professional rehearsal process that encourages the advancement of technique and performance skills.
Mrs. Stacy Bascom, RBC Dance and Performing Arts Director, was very excited for the dancers to have the experience, saying “The Ten Hairy Legs workshop was one of the best we have had here at RBC. Every student fully enjoyed the class and the informal performance by the duo. Alex and Tyner not only challenged the students to be the best they could be, but did so in a supportive environment that allowed the girls to have fun and just dance! We cannot wait for them to come back next year!"
